Program Description

Event Details

Join architectural historian Susan Benjamin for an enlightening (and entertaining) presentation on landmarking your historic house and its advantages. Showing numerous photographs, she will talk about the sometimes confusing but compelling reasons for landmarking your home.

Susan Benjamin has worked in the field of historic preservation for over 40 years and is the owner of Benjamin Historic Certifications. She and her associates regularly write landmark nominations, documentation reports on historic buildings and work with landmark owners to receive tax incentives. She is the author of three books: North Shore Chicago: Houses of the Lakefront Suburbs, 1890-1940, Great Houses of Chicago, 1871-1921, and--in 2020--Modern in the Middle: Chicago Houses 1929-1975. Her most recent book is in its second printing and won a national award for excellence from DOCOMOMO(which stands for Documentation and Conservation of the Modern Movement).
